TAN KAH KEE YOUNG INVENTORS' AWARD - SHANGHAI

INTRODUCTION

The Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors' Award (Shanghai) is a joint initiative of Academician Professor Qian Weichang, Vice-Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, who is also the President of Shanghai University; and Professor Phua Kok Khoo, Vice Chairman of the Tan Kah Kee Foundation, Singapore.

The desire to foster cultural exchange between Singapore and Shanghai, to jointly promote the development of science and technology and to boost creativity in science and technology prompted both Professor Qian and Professor Phua to launch the award.

The Tan Kah Kee Young Investors' Award (Shanghai) aims to glorify the education ideology of philanthropist Tan Kah Kee and motivate the young people of Shanghai to participate actively in innovation, so as to contribute to the nation.

The selection of entries took almost a year to complete, with participants coming mainly from tertiary institutions in Shanghai, namely, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tongji University, East China Normal University, East China University of Science & Technology, Donghua University, Shanghai Teachers University, University of Shanghai for Science & Technology, Shanghai Fisheries University, Shanghai Institute of Electric Power and Shanghai University.

A total of 57 entries were received and participants comprised undergraduates, post-graduate students and young teachers. The panel of expert judges selected four entries for the silver awards, 11 for merit awards and 15 for commendation awards after a thorough review.
