The Legacy of Tan Kah Kee (TKK) for the 21st Century

纪念新加坡开埠文化讲座系列之(九)Cultural Seminar – Singapore Bicentennial Edition

Who is this man (Tan Kah Kee) who was hailed as a leader of the overseas Chinese in the first half of the 20th century?  Why was he also called ‘The Henry Ford of Malaya’ and how did he make his fortune?  What motivated him to donate all his wealth to schools and humanitarian causes?  What did he do to be one of the few to have earned the title of ‘Founder of Modern Singapore’?

Almost sixty years after his death in 1961, the fire that Tan Kah Kee lit beneath our feet has only grown stronger and spread farther than ever, with an increasing number of people showing a keen interest on the story of this remarkable man. In fact, some of his admirers have and continue to walk his path and follow in his footsteps, with just one objective in mind -  to create a better world for all of us.

At this Forum, 9 speakers attempt to answer these questions, and present the many facets of a wise, talented and complex visionary whose laser sharp focus on life’s important goals are as relevant today as they were three generations ago. The speakers also shine a light at a select few whose lives have been touched by Tan Kah Kee, in order to give the audience a more multi-faceted impression of the man himself.
